The two most popular methods of building insulation

Building insulation is very important - it also affects the operating costs. If additional insulation is not provided during construction, you can do it later by choosing one of two proven methods - light wet or light dry. Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages.

The easy wet method
Building insulation in a light wet way consists in covering the surface of the exterior walls with polystyrene slabs or a layer of mineral wool. It is fixed with a water-soluble adhesive. The insulation surface is additionally finished with thin-layer plaster - no reinforcing mesh made of steel is used in this combination. The name of the method is related to the mass of the manufactured insulating layer, the mass of which, together with gypsum, is 10-30 kg / m. One of the main advantages of the light wet method is the ideal centering between the thickness of the insulation, its weight and thermal insulation properties. The wall consists of four layers: the inner plaster, the outer plaster, the main wall and the insulating layer. Their total thickness does not exceed 33 cm and retains the heat transfer coefficient U = 0.25-0.30 W / m2K.
The advantages of the light wet method also include the general availability of materials and, consequently, their affordable price. In houses insulated with this method, thermal bridges are also limited to a minimum, which significantly increases the effectiveness of insulation.
Like any method, this one is not without drawbacks. The most important of these is the significant risk of malfunction. Therefore, it is not recommended to install it yourself, but with the participation of a professional construction team. In addition, light wet insulation can only be performed under certain atmospheric conditions - without precipitation, in calm weather and at a temperature of 5-25 °C.

The method is light dry
An alternative is the dry equivalent. It differs in the way the insulation elements are attached, because traditional nails are used instead of adhesives. Water is also removed from the plaster layer - instead, other materials are used to finish the surface of the building, fixed on a special grid. This means that foamed polystyrene or other insulating material is placed between the main wall and an additional wooden grate. A special insulating film is also used as one of the layers, so the entire wall is much thicker, and its implementation requires more work and time.
The most important advantages of the light dry method are its versatility and the virtually unlimited time in which it can be performed. The specifics of the insulation installation allow you to take a break even for a few days and continue working at any time without affecting the insulation quality. You can insulate any type of building, regardless of its age or the materials from which it was made. It is also a method that allows you to quickly and easily repair any damage. The disadvantages include the not very effective appearance of standard vinyl facade coverings.
